Xabregas (old market)

Successive attempts to find, together with the Lisbon City Council, a viable alternative to Ar.Co’s somewhat derelict and increasingly difficult to reach school facilities in Rua de Santiago go back more than a decade. Negotiations resume in 2010 and finally lead to the signing of a partnership protocol on 15 July 2013 in which the Lisbon City Council cedes Ar.Co the rights to take over the disused spaces of the old market in Xabregas on a long-term basis. Responsibility for the recovery project is given to the architect João Santa Rita, who generously offers to participate in this adventure. After extensive works of rehabilitation, school activity started in January 2017. A ceremony for the official opening of the new installations took place on March 9, 2017.
