Language of New Materials
Curated by Leonor d’Orey from Lisbon’s National Museum of Ancient Art (MNA), The Language of New Materials exhibition was devoted to contemporary jewellery and was planned to coincide with The Language of Our Goldsmiths exhibition of traditional 13th- to 19th-century Portuguese goldsmithing work. Organized to accompany President Mário Soares’ state visit to Luxembourg in 1988, the double exhibition was later restaged at the Rei D. Luís Gallery in the Ajuda National Palace in Lisbon. The contemporary selection was entirely made up of pieces created by Ar.Co jewellery teachers and/or artists that had trained at its jewellery department (Alexandra Serpa Pimentel, Manuel Júlio, Fausto Guilherme, Filomeno Pereira de Sousa, Paula Crespo, Tereza Seabra and Zélia Nobre).
