Lisbon City Council
Ar.Co and the Lisbon City Council collaborate for the first time in 1978: at the municipality’s request, and giving continuity to what was already being done inside the school since 1973, Ar.Co produces an intense Cinema program to take place at the Teatro Municipal de S. Luís (the Cooperativa Paz dos Reis is also involved in the project). Throughout the following two decades Ar.Co collaborates occasionaly in municipal initiatives, Photography being the area that will first share and/or promote more ambitious projects, namely exhibitions, with the City Council. “Caminho do Oriente - Guia do Olhar” and “Flash Back – 25 Anos de Fotografia no Ar.Co”, both in 1998, as well as Ar.Co’s participations in the parallel activities of LisboaPhoto (“Espiritismo – 6 do Ar.Co”, in 2003 and “Video e Fotografia”, in 2005) are examples of such initiatives. Between November and December of 2000, the LCC also welcomes at the Torreão Nascente da Fábrica Nacional de Cordoaria the first of a large number of Ar.Co’s Scholarship Students & Finalists exibitions, that will in the future take place in different municipal spaces. The logistics and financial support granted by the LCC on the occasion of the school’s 2003 benefit Auction, that takes place at the Galeria Palácio Galveias, also proves crucial for the event’s successful outcome. Finally and by no means less important, Ar.Co and the Lisbon City Council sign a partnership protocol on the 15th of July 2013 that cedes to Ar.Co the right to take over de disused spaces at Xabregas (old market).
