International Conferences 1998
As part of the commemorations of Ar.Co’s 25th anniversary, the school organizes an internactional cycle of conferences that takes place at Rua de Santiago, 18, between February and October of 1998. The general orientation is multidisciplinary and it starts with a joint lecture by Marjan Unger (art historian and a specialist in Dutch contemporary jewellery) and Iris Eichenberg (American artist-jeweller). The Italian writer, essayist and translator Roberto Calasso provides a reading in italian of a text included in his book “The Forty-Nine Steps” (whose translation to Portuguese, published by Cotovia, is the object of a book launch at Ar.Co that very same day). There are presentations by Richard Hollis (British editor, writer and graphic designer) and Pierre Riches (Italian priest and theologian). The Portuguese lecturers are José A. Bragança de Miranda (sociologist, researcher, essayist and university professor) and João Lobo Antunes (neurosurgeon, researcher, university professor and essayist). The RAR Group and the Luso-American Foundation provide support for the initiative.
