Through Luís Valente de Oliveira, who at the time was President of the Comissão de Coordenação da Região Norte, Ar.Co and João Cutileiro and António Pedroso’s Utilpedra accept the Oporto City Council’s invitation to organize a second International Symposium of Sculpture in Stone. Minori Niizuma (for the second time), Manolo Paz, Lika Mutal and Richard Graham are the international presences. A revised list of national collaborations is composed by the artists Zulmiro de Carvalho, João Cutileiro, Graça Costa Cabral, Nelson Cardoso, José Pedro Croft, Amaral da Cunha, Pedro Fazenda, Maria Felizol, Carlos Marques, Luís Neuparth, Pedro Ramos, Vítor Ribeiro, António Campos Rosado, Sérgio Taborda and Lídia Vieira. The “Simpósio Internacional de Escultura em Pedra-Porto 85” takes place at the Palácio de Cristal and the resulting works are exhibited at the Mercado Ferreira Borges. Monumental sculptures will also be installed in several different areas in Oporto. Invited by Ar.Co’s Executive Director, Manuel Costa Cabral, Manoel de Oliveira (with the collaboration of his son, the painter Manuel Casimiro) films the Symposium.
