Scholarship Students & Finalists

A selection of work produced by Ar.Co’s scholarship students is the object of an exhibition at the National Library in 1990 (“Ar.Co 89/90 - 10 Bolseiros”). The event is the starting point for a tradition of these public annual shows. The Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes welcomes the 1991 and 1992 editions and, in the following years (1993 to 1999), Ar.Co’s decides to produce the “Scholarship Students & Finalists” in its own Lisbon installations, so that a wider audience may become acquainted with the school’s location and specific environment. This logic is inverted on the next decade and the exhibitions will again take place in public spaces with a regular planning, the expectancy of a wide visibility and the capacity to ensure more sophisticated and professional productions. Benefiting from a wide range of sponsors (among which the Lisbon City Council deserves special mention), the exhibition “Scholarship Students & Finalists” takes place at the Lisbon Fábrica Nacional da Cordoaria in 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 (including a selection of results from Youth Courses in 2002 and 2003), at the Sala Jorge Vieira (Part I, 2001, dedicated to  Photography and Video), at the Centro Cultural de Belém (Parte II, 2001), at the Hospital Júlio de Matos (2007, 2016), at the Museu da Cidade (2006, 2013, 2014, 2015), at the Special Projects gallery of the Companhia de Seguros Tranquilidade (8 sucessive presentations in 2008) and at the Galeria do Palácio Galveias (2009 a 2012). Once again with the support of the Lisbon City Council, the 2017 exhibition brought together students from 2016 and 2017 and took place simultaneously in the new headquarters of Ar.Co in Xabregas and in the Beato Creative Hub, nearby. In the following year, the show was split in 3 consecutive venues in Ar.Co Xabregas, between the months of December 2018 and May 2019.
